Chooser Dialogs

The "chooser" dialogue is used for Open, Save As, Import, Link->Browse, and Image->Browse.

This is an example of a chooser dialog -the Save As... dialog.

This is different from any file chooser you have seen before, since you can browse files on a remote server just like you can on your own hard drive.

At the top of the dialogue is a text field which displays what you will open if you press the Open button. You may type an URL into this field if you don't want to browse, or if you want to open a file on a server which cannot be browsed. Underneath that is a list of files in the current directory, as well as a representation of the directory hierarchy. You may walk up and down the hierarchy by clicking on the appropriate directory names. At the bottom of the dialog is a list of all the remote NaviServers that GNNpress knows about, as well as your local filesystem and any miniwebs you have. If you choose one of these, GNNpress will attempt to browse the top directory on that server. Clicking on a file will cause that file to appear in the location field at the top.  Double clicking on a directory will browse into the directory, and double clicking on a file will open the file.

On some systems, to the left of the file names are little icons showing the file type, including seperate icons for directories, miniwebs, html files, image files and unknown files. You can also choose what kinds of files you want displayed in the File list with the little pop up labeled "List File of Type".

The Open, Save As, Delete, and Import buttons are self-explanatory. Some of these dialogs have a Cancel button, which will prevent the action you have started; others have a Done button, which dismisses the dialog but cannot undo changes you have made. The Scan button will redisplay the contents of the directory. Finally, on some of the dialogues there is a button underneath the Cancel button which allows you to select options for the operation (File Format for Open, and Options for Import and SaveAs).  The Help button brings up this page.
